Community Shop Report

Community Shop Report

This is the report from the Community Shop. It was presented to Great Paxton Parish Council on 18th July. Councillors asked that it be posted to the website given the important messages it contained –

‘Sales at the shop continue to be below target and, consequently the shop is operating at a loss. We still need more villagers to use the shop on a regular basis.

The Manager, Michelle, is taking a break over the summer period and Sarah will be managing the shop in her absence. We are very grateful to Sarah for stepping in to help us in this way.

Over the Summer, a number of our regular volunteers will be taking holiday and we will find it difficult to keep the shop open for its normal 65 hours per week. There is a shop committee meeting this evening (18th July) and reduced opening hours during the summer period will be discussed. We will only make this change as a last resort but it does show that, although a number of new volunteers have joined the team recently, we still don’t have enough. Please pass this message to villagers that you talk to and encourage them to speak to us if they would like to join the team.

Those that do use the shop regularly, give us praise for the service we offer and appreciate that it is an important community asset. We are always looking for new initiatives to increase footfall but this is proving very difficult to achieve’.

The End.
